The Hot Air Balloon came to Sodor primarily to carry holidaymakers around Sodor. James and Thomas were jealous, but soon came to like it, after James accidentally helped it out. It still carries passengers around, providing a rather different view of Sodor. The Hot Air Balloon first featured in Season 6, and has a song dedicated to it. Other hot air balloons were featured in Christopher Awdry's spin-off book 'James & the Balloons', the basis for the TV Story.
